” Jesus said to His disciples: Make a comparison to Me and tell Me whom I am like. Simon Peter said to him: Thou art like a righteous angel. Mathew said to him: Thou art like a wise man of understanding. Thomas said to him: Master, my mouth will not at all be capable of saying whom thou art like. Jesus said: I am not thy master, because thou hast drunk, thou hast from the bubbling spring which I (become drunk have measured out. And he took him, he withdrew, He spoke three words to him. Now when Thomas came to his companions, they asked him: What did Jesus say to the? Thomas said to them: If I tell you one of the words which he said to me , you will take up stones and throw at me; and fire will come from the stones and burn you up.”
The Gospel According To Thomas
What are we to make of this? There are only two possibilities. Either Jesus is looking for praise from his disciples or he is wondering who among them actually sees him for who he really is at this moment in time. If you think he might be looking for praise then then you will have no use for the gospels or whats written here. If we can agree that he is wondering who among the disciples actually see him then clearly Thomas can be singled out as the only one since Peter sees him as a supernatural being and Mathew as a wise man. Thomas suggesting that describing Jesus is beyond words tells Jesus that he has connected directly to the divine energy that Jesus has been channeling all along. And so he tells him that he is no longer the master and whispers three words to him. These three words would have been something like ‘we are one’ or ‘I am that’ and Thomas cannot share these with the other disciples because they would find it unacceptable that he would in any way equate himself with Jesus. And, in their minds, it could only be interpreted this way. It is no wonder these Gospels did not make the cut and were excluded from the Bible.
